Hafid Chahidi is a freelance translator, poet, photographer and EFL teacher. In 2016, he obtained a Master diploma in Translation studies (Linguistic combination: Arabic-English- French-) from King Fahd School of Translation - Tangier. In 2014, he received a B.A degree in English Studies (Majored in Linguistics) from Ibn Zohr University-Agadir. Some of his poems have been published by several online journals and magazines, such as "Tower Journal", "Morocco World News’ and "The Tunisian Tanit Boat of Poetry". His translation of a poem entitled” صرخة طفلة من الأطلس “(written in Arabic) by Mr. Hamza Chafii, a Moroccan scholar and poet, has been published by the leading International Journal –Transnational Literature (sponsored by Flinders Institute for Research in the Humanities -South Australia). His research areas are translation studies, applied Linguistics and EFL education. He will pursue a Ph.D. soon.

  • The Regional Human Rights Commission of Tan-Tan- Guelmim - Translator and mediator

    2016 - 2016 The tasks I performed at the RHRC of Tan-Tan-Guelmim were mainly related to the translation of documents which addressed miscellaneous issues relating to human rights protection, promotion and dissemination. I also assisted the staff members in organizing a regional book fair organized in the city of Guelmim from May 16th, 2016 to May 21st, 2016. Additionally, I assisted them in the organization of a three-day international conference held in Guelmim. As for the translation tasks, I was asked to translate three documents. The first was a brochure (written in French); it provides a general framework for the RHRC and the various activities it conducted. I translated it from French into Arabic and English.

    Concerning the annual regional book fair mentioned earlier, I helped the Staff members at the RHRC of Tan-Tan- Guelmim in the organization of the event. My task afterwards in this intellectual and cultural event was to introduce the missions and goals of the Regional Commission to the public, especially to the young. I also contributed in organizing a roundtable with different Baccalaureate students, where I raised various issues in connection with human rights culture at the international and national levels. At this stage, I had the opportunity to get in contact with a British Muslim, Mohammed, who was converted to Islam 40 years ago in Kenya. To tell the truth, he impressed me with his encyclopedic knowledge about Islam. He fully appreciated the human rights workshop and the regional book fair. It really struck me how he could fluently speak Arabic.

    My participation in this roundtable was prompted by the desire to share ideas and debate some eclectic issues relating to human rights and the role played by the State in their promotion and protection.
